Paradise Found: Our Bahamas Adventure at Atlantis, Paradise Island
Our family chases experiences, not just destinations — and few trips delivered on that like our long weekend at Atlantis, Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Between the water slides and the sharks swimming past our window, this was a trip our kids still talk about.
The Resort Experience
Aquaventure water park easily ate up two full days — the Leap of Faith slide (yes, the one that drops you through a shark tank) was the highlight for the older kids, while the lazy river and kids' splash zone kept the little ones happy for hours. The Marine Habitat is worth slowing down for too; watching the rays glide by at eye level is something photos don't do justice.
Getting Off the Resort: Real Nassau
It's easy to never leave the resort bubble at Atlantis, but some of our favorite memories came from a half-day trip into downtown Nassau. We wandered the Straw Market, chatted with local vendors, and found a tiny shack near the harbor serving conch salad made to order — easily better than anything we ate on property.
Our Recommendations
Buy Aquaventure day passes even if you're not staying on property — it's worth the splurge.
Take the water taxi or a short cab ride into Nassau for real conch fritters and conch salad.
Hit the Marine Habitat first thing in the morning before the crowds arrive.
Pack reef-safe sunscreen — it's required in several areas of the resort.
Leave at least one afternoon unplanned — the beach at sunset needs no itinerary.
Paradise isn't just the water slides — it's the afternoon spent eating conch fritters from a beachside shack with sandy feet and no agenda.
