Powder Days in the Poconos: Our Family Ski Weekend
Not every family trip needs a passport. A quick drive into the Pocono Mountains gave us a full weekend of skiing, cozy nights by the fire, and a first-time-on-skis milestone for the kids — all without ever getting on a plane.
On the Slopes
We booked a group lesson for the beginners in the family and split off for a few faster runs ourselves, meeting back up for lunch on the mountain. By the second day, everyone was confident enough to try night skiing under the lights — which turned out to be the highlight of the whole trip.
Cozy Àpres-Ski Culture
The best part of a ski trip isn't always the skiing. Evenings meant hot chocolate, a fireplace, and board games with no phones in sight — a slower kind of family time that a beach trip doesn't always give you.
Our Recommendations
Book beginner lessons in advance — weekend slots fill up fast.
Rent gear the evening before to skip the morning rush at the rental counter.
Try night skiing at least once — shorter lift lines and a completely different feel.
Pack real layers, not just a winter coat — you'll thank yourself by run three.
Book a lodge with a fireplace or hot tub for after the slopes close.
A ski weekend proved you don't need a plane ticket to make a family memory — just a few hours in the car and a willingness to fall down a few times.
